A special series of concerts as Gareth brings the new songs back to the trails that inspired them.

TONIGHT - Back to the Roman Town of Lanchester and All Saints Church where Gareth passed through on The Way of Light.

In June 2025 singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones walked from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to Durham Cathedral via St Oswald’s Way and The Way of Light (Northern Saints Trail). Wending their way through a captivating landscape of coast, castles, valleys and mountains, these special routes transport the traveller through the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria, land of the Northern Saints and cradle of the industrial revolution. As Gareth walked he carried a small guitar on his back and performed concerts for local communities everywhere he stopped. The journey provided the inspiration and raw material for a new album of original songs written on retreat in the Cheviot Hills and back on Lindisfarne in the Autumn of 2025. The new album, recorded with producer and guitarist Graeme Duffin (WetWetWet!) in Glasgow and called “A Troubadour Journey : Lindisfarne to Durham” is released in physical form on Friday 24th April 2026 and on all streaming services from 1st May 2026.

During 2026 Gareth takes “A Troubadour Journey” on tour to selected venues. The concerts will gather together the stories and experiences woven into new music from his time walking through these beautiful parts of Northumberland and Durham. For audiences the events promise a vivid and entertaining musical encounter with the sights, sounds, history and contemporary heart of these Northern pilgrimage trails. As well as the new material, the concerts will also feature selected songs from across Gareth’s career that capture a sense of journeying and particularly the spirit of the Northern Trails - for example “Lindisfarne” about Eadfrith and the writing of the Lindisfarne Gospels.

Doors open : 7.00PM, music begins : 7.30PM Tickets: £10.00 in advance, £12.00 on the door.

A special concert in the historic surroundings of Hexham Abbey to launch Gareth's new solo album "A Troubadour Journey : Lindisfarne to Durham" based on his musical pilgrimage from Holy Island to Durham Cathedral in June 2025. The Abbey is a particularly fitting venue as Gareth's route led him down from Heavenfield on Hadrian's Wall (where St Oswald's Way meets The Way of Light) to Evening Prayer at the Abbey on Day 8 of the walk. Joining Gareth this evening to showcase this new collection of songs inspired by his travels along the trails will be Bronwen Davies-Jones on backing vocals, David Lyon on keys and a few other special guests to be announced.

LIVING ROOM GIGS

CHRISTMAS ACOUSTIC TOUR

For many years I’ve been performing concerts in the comfort of supporters homes. The concept of the ‘Living Room Gig’ is very simple - take a professional musician, provide a cosy corner in a friendly living room, invite a select audience, add some food and drink…… and you have the perfect evening out by staying in !

There’s more information about what’s involved in organising the gigs below. But first………
…..don’t take my word for it. Listen to some audio from audience members, hosts and the artist.

The Artist Interview 1

Every year I’ve been putting aside time in December to do some very special gigs on the theme of Advent and Christmas. Music has always been an integral part of the Christmas season for me. Yet often the carols and songs drift by on a high street wave of over-familiarity that takes away the original potency and impact their writers intended. So, armed with fresh interpretations, arrangements, melodies, and with a little background on the writers themselves, I hit the road with some of the best known seasonal works intent on helping people to look again. And you know, year on year people have said to me how they appreciated some time away from the inevitable hustle and bustle, to sit back and re-engage with the wonder of Advent and Christmas. The gigs are usually intimate, cosy events in atmospheric venues.  The aim is to enjoy the music, hear the stories, relax in good company and reconnect with a story that has often been buried too deeply amongst our headlong rush to December 25th.

The albums that accompany the tour ("Nine Lessons" and "The Darkest Midnight in December") are available to sample/purchase in the MUSIC section of the website.
