Welcome

Welcome to the home of all things pertaining to Singer-songwriter and composer Gareth Davies-Jones.

“Very beautiful music……I can thoroughly recommend this”
Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

“..one of the UK’s best-kept musical secrets…powerful songs and affecting performances”
Properganda

“Rich and soulful vocals, a fine ear for melody & masterful acoustic guitar playing”
Rockn’Reel Magazine

“Some artists often sing in the name of one cause or another without conviction, but that is not the case here. The legacy of well-written, descriptive music laid down by Woody Guthrie, still lives on here in the UK”
Maverick Magazine (5 Stars)

“..intelligent songs which make a point gently and invoke sympathy……..someone to be taken seriously”

ALL SAINTS, ANNIVERSARIES & ART

We conjour up the darkness and forget about the light. The day after the night before I find myself a year older and experiencing the ever widening gap between what I know and what there is to be known. But that's ok. I'm also growing correspondingly at ease with the mystery and the wonder. Today, All Saints Day, happens to be the anniversary of my birth. I've always tried to take note of it both as a celebration of my walk along the path of life and my journey of faith. I join with millions of Christians…

TELLING THE PEOPLES STORY ....

I've just finished a series of three gigs here in the North East predominantly drawing on material from The Seam collection. The common link between all three events was 'community'. In each case the organisation or people who organised the evenings were concerned to see the needs of their community are recognised, listened to and addressed - whether through involvement in community initiatives to engage people with their landscape, culture and heritage (in the case of The Land of Oak & Iron), whether it…Read more

THE LAND OF OAK & IRON : SUNDAY 10th JULY

In a couple of weeks time I'll be taking to the stage in Blaydon to the west of Newcastle, to share some of the songs from The Seam project alongside The Felling Brass and pupils from Prudhoe Community High School. The event is to mark the launch of a new initiative called The Land Of Oak & Iron. Stretching from Derwent Reservoir in the west to Blaydon in the east the project is all about conserving, enhancing and celebrating the area's rich natural, cultural and industrial heritage. You can learn much more…Read more

INSPIRATION: HOW DO I SEE IT....

INFINITE PIE – THE PODCAST INTERVIEW

So here’s the thing. In many ways I’m reluctant to talk about the creative process because it can begin to suggest to people that there’s only one way to go about it. Everyone is different and that difference and uniqueness is expressed in many ways we choose to communicate and express ourselves. I’d hate to raise up one approach more than others because what works for one….. You get my drift. That said, I always find it valuable to be prompted to reflect on how I go…

INSPIRATION: BETH NEILSEN-CHAPMAN

Beth Neilsen Chapman is a songwriter I’ve learned a lot from over the years. A few years ago I got to see her deliver a songwriting masterclass in Gateshead. She was on top form and only a prior booking for one of my own gigs prevented me getting along to her concert at The Sage the next day. If you’re a songwriter, interested in songwriting or would simply like an insight into how someone at the top of their game goes about creating – then take a look at this video posted by M-Magazine.

Enjoy.

INCENDIARY TO TEALIGHT

AN OBJECT OF REMEMBRANCE

During 1941 the Luftwaffe and it’s bombers targeted Belfast for Blitzkrieg. With it’s extensive ship building and munitions industry the city was considered worthy of attention. Unfortunately for it’s residents the authorities had considered Belfast at low risk from attack and hence the defences were minimal. Over 900 people died in the first raid on 15th April and a further 150 died in the raid on 4th May. Outside of London the April bombing saw the heaviest loss of life of any…
