Looking forward to being back at BAAFest, this time with Howay The Lasses. Come along and enjoy a superb weekend of live music set in the award winning Northumberland National Park. Now in its 13th year, BAAFest provides a fantastic opportunity to hear some of the best and most established folk, blues and acoustic acts, alongside new and emerging talent. Howay The Lasses will be featuring as part of the now traditional fundraiser gig opener on the Thursday evening at Brownrigg Lodges. (registration from 5.30pm, bar at 7pm - music starts around 8pm).

After a successful outdoor concert there back in 2021, I'm delighted to be back at Minsteracres for this special Sunday afternoon event with Annie Ball and Bronwen Davies-Jones. Bring your own picnic and chair, sit back and let our blend of voice, accordion, flute and guitar ease you through a summer’s afternoon. Our set will include selected songs from our various solo projects, a sneak preview of some material from our Howay The Lasses project, some instrumentals and all accompanied by an insight into the stories and ideas that lie behind the music. Minsteracres, just off the A68 above Riding Mill, is a 110 acre estate that formerly belonged to the Silvertop family. It’s a very special place with historic buildings, lots of open space, and a stunning parkland designed by John Dobson who was a contemporary of the great Capability Brown. The grounds have a real sense of calm and tranquility about them and we’re delighted to bring you an afternoon of live music in the Peace Garden - a lush and relaxing space just down from the main house and which adjoins the estates original walled garden. It’s the perfect space to spread out and enjoy a picnic accompanied by our performance. If you’ve never been to Minsteracres before we just know you’re going to love it. Come and enjoy a musical afternoon out and discover some new surroundings into the bargain. More event details at the ticket link below.

LIVING ROOM GIGS

CHRISTMAS ACOUSTIC TOUR

For many years I’ve been performing concerts in the comfort of supporters homes. The concept of the ‘Living Room Gig’ is very simple - take a professional musician, provide a cosy corner in a friendly living room, invite a select audience, add some food and drink…… and you have the perfect evening out by staying in !

There’s more information about what’s involved in organising the gigs below. But first………
…..don’t take my word for it. Listen to some audio from audience members, hosts and the artist.

Every year I’ve been putting aside time in December to do some very special gigs on the theme of Advent and Christmas. Music has always been an integral part of the Christmas season for me. Yet often the carols and songs drift by on a high street wave of over-familiarity that takes away the original potency and impact their writers intended. So, armed with fresh interpretations, arrangements, melodies, and with a little background on the writers themselves, I hit the road with some of the best known seasonal works intent on helping people to look again. And you know, year on year people have said to me how they appreciated some time away from the inevitable hustle and bustle, to sit back and re-engage with the wonder of Advent and Christmas. The gigs are usually intimate, cosy events in atmospheric venues.  The aim is to enjoy the music, hear the stories, relax in good company and reconnect with a story that has often been buried too deeply amongst our headlong rush to December 25th.

The albums that accompany the tour ("Nine Lessons" and "The Darkest Midnight in December") are available to sample/purchase in the MUSIC section of the website.

JONES & JONES : The Story and The Song

Join award winning songwriter-musicians Bill Jones and Gareth Davies-Jones for an engaging evening of original and traditional songs each with their own unique story. Bringing a range of instruments, wit and wisdom the pair combine over 30 years of touring experience to guide you through an eclectic mix of musical tales, old and new.  Come and be entertained by tales of daring and disaster, songs of love and laughter, and ballads full of ghostly characters and murderous intrigue, with Jones and Jones: The Story and The Song.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Bill (Belinda) Jones (accordion, piano) is renowned for her beautiful voice and memorable, catchy songs.  Based in Sunderland but with roots in Staffordshire and India, Bill spent the early 2000s touring across the UK, USA and Japan, and released three acclaimed albums.  Fifteen years after taking a short break, Bill returned to the folk scene last year, with the release of her fourth album Wonderful Fairytale.

Sony Radio Award winning singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones has been described as one of the UK’s best kept musical secrets. A musician in the troubadour tradition with over 10 albums to his name including numerous collaborations and residencies, Gareth has graced stages and venues across the UK and Ireland with his rich soulful vocals, keen sense of melody and accomplished guitar playing.
