Songs For The Staying Home...
Greetings Everyone, The times they are a changing. I'm sure these past few days have been a shock for all of us. That we will come out the other side of it - I am convinced. That there is still beauty and wonder all around us to inspire and uplift - I am equally convinced. As a Christian I fall back on one of the instructions at the heart of the faith - "love your neighbour as yourself". Jesus said this to us knowing that not only is it good for others and for society as a whole, but it's also good for us. We were made to be interdependent and our neighbours and especially those on their own or in vulnerable groups need our help and support now more than ever. Here's what love looks like: a phone call, an encouraging message, a conversation (from a safe distance of course), getting groceries for those stuck inside, offering to do chores that can't be done by those infirm or unwell, offering some of your own resource for those struggling to make ends meet, sharing time and companionship with those who are lonely or afraid (at a safe distance !). Look out for those around you - holding together is the only way forward.
So...what can a musician with nothing but cancellations, postponements and a relatively empty diary do to help ?
Song Videos... For The Staying Home...
In the weeks ahead I'll post some videos that I'll record here at home of songs new and old for you to enjoy. I'll add them to my website so watch out for them at www.garethdavies-jones.com/media . There's a new video of an old favourite from my gigs just uploaded today and a selection of other videos on there too, so feel free to head over, browse - and share. I'll also be adding links on social media for folks to find them.
New Live Album - from Home
I'm going to record a new collection of material called 'Songs For The Staying Home...". They'll be done in 'one-take' in the ambient surroundings of our light and airy extension here in the Tyne Valley in Northumberland. There'll be a wee bit of hiss, a few bumps and clicks here and there, you might hear the hum of the fridge (!) but it will give you the sense that it's 'live' and that you're here with me and I'm there with you. The album will be added a song at a time to www.garethdavies-jones.com/music. If you need a pick me up - please just download it and share it for free. If you're in a position to pay something towards it to help me out in these lean 'concert-free' times, then great.
Previous Albums Free or Pay What You Feel
From today I'm making my previous albums "The Beauty & The Trouble", "Now But Not Yet" and "Chasing Light" available to download for free, or pay what you feel on my website. Go to www.garethdavies-jones.com/music to pick them up. I'll be delighted if you want to share them with anyone who wants something new to listen to whilst we're all going through this. Also - you can download individual tracks easily to send the MP3 of an individual song to people who you think might be encouraged to hear it. Might be a good way to keep contact going and brighten someone's day.
Concerts for Autumn & Christmas
I know these are going to be tough times for everyone at the moment. However, if you think you are able to help by provisionally booking an Autumn gig or a date on my Christmas Acoustic Tour in December this year then I'd be really happy and grateful to pencil your date in subject to the restrictions that may or may not still be in place.
Looking further ahead I'll be keeping in touch with other musicians that I know and work with to see if there are other things that we can do to brighten up your days a wee bit. The Virtual House Gig is just around the corner...watch this space. If you have any suggestions or you'd just like to get in touch, then I'd love to hear from you. Please drop me a line on firstname.lastname@example.org
We need each other, we need the arts and we need music more than ever right now. So please consider supporting artists where you can. Thank you for all of your support in times past. I trust and hope it won't be too long before we can sing and and tell our stories to one another face to face.
More from me soon....
