All Saints Parish Church, Durham Road, Lanchester, DH7 0LJ
In June 2025 Gareth will be walking (with a guitar !) from Lindisfarne via St Oswald's Way and The Way of Light Northern Saints Trail - arriving into Durham on the Eve of Midsummer. As he goes, the journey itself will provide inspiration, stories and perspectives for a new collection of songs to be written and recorded in Autumn/ Winter 2025. During the walk he is performing a series of intimate acoustic concerts at atmospheric venues with songs from across his career and particularly those relating to the North East - for example "Lindisfarne" about Eadfrith and the writing of the Lindisfarne Gospels and Heavenfield - written about St Oswald's Church on Hadrian's Wall. Come along and be part of the journey.
Tonight's concert will be the final one along the route this year and sees Gareth arrive into Lanchester from Edmundbyers on Journey Day 9 to play at All Saints Parish church. The church is a beautiful 12th century building (containing stones from a nearby Roman Fort) one of whose former congregants was railway engineer William Hedley. We're delighted to say that Gareth will be joined this evening by Durham based singer-songwriter Sam Slatcher (who happens to be warden for The Way of Light trail section running into Durham) and also by singer-songwriter Bronwen Davies-Jones. We'll also be joined by David Pott - architect of the Northern Saints Trails who will share a little about a new initiative called Walks4Life. Refreshments will be available in the venue from 6.30pm. The music will start at 7.00pm. There are toilet facilities available at the venue.
If possible please book in advance at the link below to help with numbers. Tickets will also be available on the door. There will be refreshments available at this evening's concert.
'Foot Notes' is a new venture combining songwriting and pilgrimage, seeking to highlight, through music, the history of culture and faith along our ancient highways and byways.
